Ever think, "I'd rather be fishing?" Grab your tackle box, here is your chance! Each December Camp Tahuaya's spring-fed lake is stocked with lots of Rainbow Trout from Missouri.
Participants keep up to 6 Trout per person. No limit on Bluegill & Bass. We will provide you the fishing license for the day. Please be kind & courteous to your fellow Scouts. Leave the lake better than you found it!
NOTE: Please make sure your group brings #10, #12 or # 14 single hooks or treble hooks. Recommended casting rigs are light 6' or longer fishing rods rated for 4 LB to 10 LB line (2kg to 5kg) and loaded with 4 LB–5 LB test line. Shorter rods are harder to cast. Bring PowerBait for Trout or mini marshmallows - several colors.
If you would like to work on the Scouting Fishing Advancement Opportunities offered during the weekend, please print out the attached workbooks, complete what you can, and bring it with you to camp.

Phil-A-Palooza
Are you going on a trek at the Philmont Scout Ranch in the Summer of 2025? Then you and your crew (adults and youth) are invited to the 2025 Philmont "PHIL-A-PALOOZA" program hosted by our Longhorn Council Philmont Ambassadors on the weekend of Friday, January 31 through Sunday February 02, 2025, at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch, Camp 9 Dining Hall. Bring your entire crew out to hike and camp for the weekend. Use this weekend as one of your Shakedown campouts. Try out the Philmont cooking and cleaning methods.
At the PHIL-A-PALOOZA, the Ambassadors will go over topics to make your trek be the best that it can be!

Cub Rangemaster Training
Cub Scout BB & Archery Instructor Training Course
You are invited to Cub Scout Range Master Training. You can get trained to run Cub Scout BB Gun and Archery Ranges at Council and District events. Shooting Sports are a major highlight in a Cub Scout's life and helping them learn a new skill is very gratifying. We hope you will consider getting trained so you can run ranges safely and effectively.
This certification is good for two years. Each session is approximately 3 hours in the morning with a lunch break, then 3 hours in the afternoon.You are invited to Cub Scout Range Master Training. Scout Sunday
Commemorate Scout Sunday 2025 to recognize the contributions of Scouts and leaders in your community. Celebrated on Sunday, February 2, 2025, this special day honors the dedication of youth and adult members to the Scouting program. The emblem is designed to be worn proudly on uniforms, serving as a reminder of the values and commitment shared within the Scouting family.
Each chartered organization may observe Scout Sunday on the designated date, February 2, or select an alternative Sunday that best aligns with their faith community’s schedule. For example, United Methodist Churches celebrate Scout Sunday on the second Sunday in February. This emblem is a perfect addition to any Scout’s uniform, symbolizing their participation and pride in the Scouting tradition.
Winterfest
Winterfest is an exciting, fun-filled, and competitive event for Explorers, Venturers, Sea Scouts & older youth registered in Scouts BSA troops. Winterfest is an action-packed 2-day event filled with competitions, aquatic and STEM events, shooting sports, climbing, sports tournaments and more! Many events are related to various career fields such as Fire Service, Law Enforcement, and EMS.
Winterfest is open to all currently registered Venturers, Explorers, Sea Scouts, and Scouts BSA of Venturing age (14+ or completed the eighth grade).
Merit Badge College (Day 1)
NOTE - Two classes each day and registration covers both days. Scouts
will take two classes on 2/8, do homework for the month break and then
return on 3/8 for the same two classes to finish up.

Top Shot
Ready to aim high and hit the bullseye of fun? Top Shot 2025 is your chance to experience a target-rich environment of shooting sports and family fun! Get ready to have a blast with a range of activities that will keep you on target for an unforgettable weekend.
For All Ages:
- Cub Scout Packs: Test your aim with BB guns, archery, rubber band guns, wrist rockets, and enjoy carnival-style games while you wait.
- Scouts BSA Troops: Shoot for the stars with rifle, shotgun, muzzleloading, various types of archery, tomahawk, and hatchet.
- Crews, Ships, and Adults: Go for gold with pistol, rifle, shotgun, muzzleloading, multiple forms of archery, tomahawk, and hatchet. There is limited space available for adult participants to ensure that all youth get to participate. At this time, the adult participant slots are sold out and we can only allow non-participating adults. Please contact Jonna Martin if you have any questions.
Camping: Units and families can pitch their tents and stay overnight. Choose your nights when registering.
Den Chief Training
Scouts can be valuable resources for Cub Scout Dens and their leaders. By completing this training, a Scout will be eligible to take on the role of den chief with a Cub Scout or Webelos Den. The time a Scout serves as a den chief applies toward the leadership requirement for rank advancement! This course is for Scouts First Class and above.

Merit Badge College (Arrowhead)
This merit badge earning opportunity will take place in 2 sessions (8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm) with a lunch in between.
The registration will include your admission to the event as well as lunch and a custom patch.
This event is for Scouts BSA Youth, there are no classes being offered for Cub Scout Aged Youth.
It is important to note that all Merit Badges will not be completed at this event, unless otherwise stated by instructors.

It brings together youth leaders from all over the council to learn and apply the skills they need to be effective leaders in their teams and units. This course draws upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles, and successful outdoor leadership organizations throughout the country. This exciting and fast-paced training discusses team development and appropriate leadership strategies to enable teams and units to reach their highest performance level. Come experience the ultimate in youth leadership training.

Spring-O
Spring-O PLUS US Junior National Championships March 21-23, 2025
The US Interscholastic and Intercollegiate National Orienteering Championships will be held at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch in conjunction with Spring-O. The Air Force JROTC National Championship will also be held as part of the event.
This event is a two-day orienteering competition co-hosted by Longhorn Council and the North Texas Orienteering Association (NTOA). This year it is also a National Ranking Event sanctioned by Orienteering USA. Orienteering USA - Find your way!
The meet is open to the public! This means that our local Scout units who have traditionally attended Spring-O will still be able to do so. The added benefit is they will get to meet elite orienteers from around the country and test their skills on championship courses. Recreational courses are available for single day participants.
Waiver of Responsibility Form: All participants must present a waiver at check-in when participating in NTOA events. You can save time by downloading a waiver in advance and bringing the completed form to the meet. Participants under 18 must have the signature of a parent or guardian.

Ready to become a certified NRA instructor and lead rifle and shotgun ranges for Scouts and Venturers? This is your chance to gain the skills and certification needed to become a Rifle Shooting or Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge counselor!
Training Series Overview:
Join us for an intensive, two-weekend series designed to turn you into a skilled NRA instructor. The Longhorn Council Shooting Sports Committee is offering all the essential NRA courses to get you certified.
What’s Included:

Cost is $25 per Scout with some MB's (Cooking $15, Pottery $30, Space Exploration $10, etc.) having an additional cost for supplies. The courses that you choose will be the same courses for weekend #1 and weekend #2. While we do our best to find counselors for all courses, the class selection is subject to last minute changes as personal emergencies arise. Please check the merit badge requirements beforehand to see if there are any pre-requisites.
Frontier Trails District Camporee
Bring the Troops out this year for our Frontier Trails District Camporee. Camporee will be held April 6-8, 2025 at Sid Richardson SR2 / Buchanan Springs
$12 per person, does not include meals.
Webelos can attend during Saturday for daytime only, and must be with a registered adult at all times.
Climbing Instructor Training
Rock Climbing Instructor Course
Unlimited enrollment, and preregistration are required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead rock climbing and rappelling activities for single and multi-unit activities. Includes a Tower and Certification Class that covers the SR2 Tower.
The course is held Friday evening through Sunday on the dates listed on the flyer. Check in at the SR2 Tower (not at Hermit’s Cave) camping area at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. The fee includes all meals from breakfast on Saturday to lunch on Sunday. Please bring something for a cracker-barrel Friday night. Plan to arrive early and be prepared to start class no later than 8:00 PM on Friday, as the course will begin promptly. We will try and dismiss by 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon. You will not need to make a camp reservation. All registrations must be prepaid. After registering, participants will receive the course information and an outline of knots participants are expected to know on arrival for the class. As of 2015 the required course manual for climbing courses is BSA’s new Belay On, the new climbing/rappelling and COPE manual. It is only available for download.
Tower Instructor Course
Unlimited enrollment, preregistration required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead climbing and rappelling activities for units at the SR2 Tower. The Classes will end at 6:00 PM. Please bring a sack lunch and lots of water/drinks/snacks. You will not need to make a camp reservation.
Re-certification Courses: Tower Instructor & Rock Instructor. For currently certified instructors.
The Climbing Re-Certification Courses are held at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. Both the Rock Instructor and Tower Instructor recert Courses start at the Climbing Tower. Anyone who has completed either the Climbing Instructor or Tower Instructor training may renew their training by demonstrating proficiency on that topic. The course is from Saturday only from 8 AM till approximately 12 noon. Be sure to bring a lunch, lots of water, and gloves. You will not need to make a camp reservation. Scouting for Clean Waterways
Scouting for Clean Waterways officially begins on Earth Day and is one of the largest annual nationwide debris cleanups of the rivers, lakes, and coastal areas held during Earth month.

Longhorn Council Recognition Banquet
The Annual Recognition Banquet is held each year to recognize volunteer leaders throughout the Longhorn Council. Join us for an evening of food and fellowship. Part of the program will be the presentation of the Silver Beaver Awards, the highest Scouting America volunteer recognition presented at the council level. Other awards given in the past include

USA Archery Level I Instructor Course
Those wishing to run Troop and Venture Unit archery activities and to become an approved Archery Merit Badge Counselor, will need to complete the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification or above.
The class will start at 8:00 am at the Archery Range. The Practical class is a busy, hands-on 4.5 hours. We will break for a short lunch and continue BSA Shooting Sports policy, LHC Archery Policy, and how to conduct the Archery Merit Badge including arrow making and string making. This will take an additional 2 hours.
There is a three-step process to becoming a USA Archery Level 1 Instructor. One, register and complete the USA Archery Level 1 on-line Instructor course ($40). Two, register for the USA Archery Level 1 Practical on the USA Archery website (no cost). Three, register for Practical on the Longhorn Council Training page, and attend the LHC USA Archery Level 1 Practical at a LHC camp.
Again, a three-step process. First, go to the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification web page, register to take the on-line and successfully complete the On-Line Level I Instructor Couse. Cost $40 payable to USA Archery. It takes about 4 hours, is available 24 hours a day, and does not need to be completed all at once. Passing criteria on the exam is 75%. See link below.
Aquatics Supervision Training
Swimming & Water Rescue and Paddle Craft Safety Training
Longhorn Council Aquatics Committee invites you to join us for a fun weekend of aquatic training. Training starts at 8pm Friday night and will conclude Sunday no later then 5pm. This weekend event offers two trainings in one! Saving you $20 and an entire weekend! Training is for Scouts/Scouters 15+
Training includes printed learning resources, patch, and meals. Cost is $50 per person.
National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer is May 1, 2025, and all Scouts & their families are encouraged to participate by reading a portion of their own sacred text at 5:30 p.m. local time on that day. Participants can earn a Scouts Read Sacred Texts patch.
Our First Scouts Read Sacred Texts Worldwide event greatly exceeded everyone's expectations. On May 2, 2024, on the National Day of Prayer, we had over 3600 youth from 177 councils participate. They read their sacred texts for over 800 hours. Nearly 3900 patches were ordered.

IOLS
IOLS stands for Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills a training course that provides leaders with basic skills and information to run a successful outdoor Scouting program.
Who should take IOLS?
The BSA requires that you have at least one IOLS-trained adult on every Scouts BSA overnight outdoor event.
Why should I take IOLS?
You’ll learn how to make camping activities and outings fun. You’ll discover how to keep your Scouts safe and entertained. And you’ll learn how to plan an event that’s rooted firmly in Scouting’s principles. You’ll learn the basic outdoor skills to develop confidence and competence in your Unit’s leaders conducting outdoor camping activities.

IOLS / BALOO Training (Copy)
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is an overnight training event that introduces parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly Pack camping. The training includes campsite selection, outdoor event planning, parent involvement, health & safety, equipment, cooking, and an introduction to camping skills.
All Packs are required to have a minimum of one (more recommended) for any and all overnight events.
Online BALOO Prerequisite Training on my.scouting.org is required prior to attending course. Please bring proof of completion.
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Participants will works as Patrols at this hands-on training. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. All Troops are required to have IOLS trained leaders and all SM/ASMs are required to have it to be fully trained.
IOLS Orientation is required for all participants and will be held online via Zoom and the Zoom link will be provided after registration.

Climbing Instructor Training
Rock Climbing Instructor Course
Unlimited enrollment, and preregistration are required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead rock climbing and rappelling activities for single and multi-unit activities. Includes a Tower and Certification Class that covers the SR2 Tower.
The course is held Friday evening through Sunday on the dates listed on the flyer. Check in at the SR2 Tower (not at Hermit’s Cave) camping area at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. The fee includes all meals from breakfast on Saturday to lunch on Sunday. Please bring something for a cracker-barrel Friday night. Plan to arrive early and be prepared to start class no later than 8:00 PM on Friday, as the course will begin promptly. We will try and dismiss by 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon. You will not need to make a camp reservation. All registrations must be prepaid. After registering, participants will receive the course information and an outline of knots participants are expected to know on arrival for the class. As of 2015 the required course manual for climbing courses is BSA’s new Belay On, the new climbing/rappelling and COPE manual. It is only available for download.
Tower Instructor Course
Unlimited enrollment, preregistration required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead climbing and rappelling activities for units at the SR2 Tower. The Classes will end at 6:00 PM. Please bring a sack lunch and lots of water/drinks/snacks. You will not need to make a camp reservation.
Re-certification Courses: Tower Instructor & Rock Instructor. For currently certified instructors.
The Climbing Re-Certification Courses are held at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. Both the Rock Instructor and Tower Instructor recert Courses start at the Climbing Tower. Anyone who has completed either the Climbing Instructor or Tower Instructor training may renew their training by demonstrating proficiency on that topic. The course is from Saturday only from 8 AM till approximately 12 noon. Be sure to bring a lunch, lots of water, and gloves. You will not need to make a camp reservation. JOTA-JOTI Jamboree
Scouts must be 13 years or older to sign-up. For your safety and wellbeing, all participants between the ages of 13 and 18 are expected to inform and involve a parent or guardian in their JOTA-JOTI experience
Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) is an annual Scouting event that uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world, around the nation, and in your own community. This worldwide jamboree requires no travel other than to a nearby radio amateur’s ham shack. Many times the hams will agree to set up at a Scout event. There are many ways to get your Scouts involved in JOTA.
Jamboree-on-the-Internet (JOTI) is an annual Scouting event sponsored by the World Organization of the Scout Movement. This event utilizes the internet and the numerous devices that are used to get online, from your home computer to iPad tablets to mobile phones, to link Scouts from around the world. JOTI participation can help fulfill some of the Citizenship in the World or Digital Technology merit badge requirements!

National Youth Leadership (NYLT) Training is the premier youth leadership development course for the Boy Scouts of America within the Longhorn Council. It brings together youth leaders from all over the council to learn and apply the skills they need to be effective leaders in their teams and units. This course draws upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles, and successful outdoor leadership organizations throughout the country. This exciting and fast-paced training discusses team development and appropriate leadership strategies to enable teams and units to reach their highest performance level. National Jamboree
What’s a Jamboree? It’s not camp. National Jamboree is 360-degrees of fun, friends and fellowship with hands-on adventure that takes you places you never thought you’d go and challenge you to try things you never thought you could.
It’s the beginning of your own heroes’ journey that will challenge you to go farther than you ever thought possible. You’ll reach deeper and lift yourself higher to become the best version of yourself.

World Scout Jamboree
The 26th World Scout Jamboree is scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 8 2027 in Gdańsk, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Northern Poland.
World Scout Jamboree brings together Scouts from all over the globe for a unique celebration of unity, adventure, and shared learning. This event is one of the most anticipated gatherings in the global Scouting calendar, and it promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved.
To participate as a Youth Participant, individuals must be between 14 and 17 years old at the time of the event. Those who are older, specifically born on or before 30 July 2009, have the opportunity to join as International Service Team (IST) volunteers. These volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the Jamboree, taking on a variety of support roles throughout the event.
Adult volunteers, including those on the Contingent Management Team (CMT), must also be 18 years or older, adhering to the same age requirement as IST volunteers.
There are three ways to be a part of the USA contingent. Scouts ages 14-17 have the unique opportunity to join the contingent as a youth. Scouters may apply to be either an adult leader with the contingent or an IST (International Service Team (staff member).

Ever think, "I'd rather be fishing?" Grab your tackle box, here is your chance! Each December Camp Tahuaya's spring-fed lake is stocked with lots of Rainbow Trout from Missouri.
Participants keep up to 6 Trout per person. No limit on Bluegill & Bass. We will provide you the fishing license for the day. Please be kind & courteous to your fellow Scouts. Leave the lake better than you found it!
NOTE: Please make sure your group brings #10, #12 or # 14 single hooks or treble hooks. Recommended casting rigs are light 6' or longer fishing rods rated for 4 LB to 10 LB line (2kg to 5kg) and loaded with 4 LB–5 LB test line. Shorter rods are harder to cast. Bring PowerBait for Trout or mini marshmallows - several colors.
If you would like to work on the Scouting Fishing Advancement Opportunities offered during the weekend, please print out the attached workbooks, complete what you can, and bring it with you to camp.

Cub-O
Cub-O is the most popular orienteering event in North America. Almost 35,000 youth and adults have attended since 1998. Units can make it a day trip or a weekend camp. Dens can compete hard or take an easy, fun hike in the woods. Both options are a great opportunity to teach youth about map reading, problem solving, and strategy.

What is the University of Scouting? The University of Scouting is a leader's learning adventure! It is an action-packed, fun-filled single day of supplemental training where you choose the classes you wish to take. Classes are led by experienced volunteers and professionals who will help you enhance your ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the Scouts.
Inside the Course Catalog you will find registration information, course fees, and information on the degree program. You will also find the course offerings for each of the Colleges: Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing/Sea Scouts/Explores/OA, Outdoor Ethics and Conservation, General Studies, and Youth Development.
This is the Council’s largest single day training event for adults and youth in Longhorn Council. You will have the opportunity to meet and share ideas with other like-minded individuals in the area. We encourage you to use your time between classes for networking – meet up with old friends and make new friends. The University Midway is a great place for you to learn more about Council programs, training event, Scouting ideas, community partners, and maybe win a prize.

At Texas Powder Horn, you "learn by doing" with expert Scouters and consultants who guide you first-hand through a sampling of amazing outdoor activities. Prospective Scouts (Grade 4 and 5 only): youth that have not registered with BSA. They will have the option to join the event Saturday and participate in all activities. Due to BSA policy rules, youth interested in joining scouting are allowed to attend for the day but are not allowed to camp overnight.
Food will NOT be provided for participants except for an ice cream social Saturday evening. Please plan to provide meals for your family or as a pack.
A BALOO trained leader for each Pack MUST be present for overnight camping. All YPT (Youth Protection Training) and cub camping rules per BSA policy must be followed at all times.
Canoe Race
Join us for an exciting Canoe Race on the Brazos River. This event historically sells out (there are only so many canoes) so be sure to register early!
Powder Horn
At Texas Powder Horn, you "learn by doing" with expert Scouters and consultants who guide you first-hand through a sampling of amazing outdoor activities. Examples of programming in past years have included paddle boarding, rappelling, fly fishing, shooting sports, snorkeling, caving, sail boating, and so much more!
The location for the event is Camp Tahuaya, near Belton. Both adults and youth participants (14-20 years old) and over are eligible to attend. Re-energize or re-start your unit with a wealth of new outdoor adventure ideas and resources - it's "fun with a purpose!”
